3/8/2012 0 Comments A Place to Travel Nonstop...(NOTE: This post is probably also suitable to the "Foods for Fantasizing" section of MC, since it at one point dives into the amazingly delectable place called Chocolati...See, even reading the name of the place just makes you salivate, doesn't it?)
Why is it nice to study in a cafe? Because that's where juices get flowing, ideas start popping, and conversations get traveling nonstop. Plus, cafes are great places to get a decent amount of studying done; one great example is that yesterday, I spent literally six hours working on a proposal for my sales presentation which I survived today (wahoo to that!). Six hours were definitely what I needed, and one other thing I especially needed to get all that work out of the way, was the tall hot chocolate with whipped cream that I ordered with both a sense of desperation and excitement...It gave me plenty of energy from that yummingly sugary taste. :) Anyway, I am sitting inside a cafe right now studying with a good friend of mine...Well, not studying obviously, since I'm writing here, but I will study as soon as this post is finished. Chocolati is a cafe in Wallingford, just a 10-minute bus ride from campus, and it's pretty much one of the most adorable places you could venture out to study in! Its dim lighting that reflects off of the dark hues of red painted lovingly on the walls, paired with the soft music playfully ringing in your ears as you crack open your textbook (...or laptop) and the undeniably delicious selection of flavors of hot chocolate that decorate the atmosphere with even more color and excitement, make this place a good choice for where to get those juices flowing, ideas popping, and conversation traveling ...Traveling as many miles as you can imagine. :) Oh yeah, and also a good choice to study for that final exam. Enjoy the rest of your day, and I hope you have found that certain special place that takes you to the best version of your study-mode self! "Hooooooot." ~~MC P.S. I recently started doing this thing where I make owl noises when I'm in a really good mood...So I'm just throwing that out there as a subtle warning for future posts, where you may end up reading a bunch of "Hooooot"s. ;) 1/21/2012 0 Comments Sweeps Away Cobwebs...There is something authentically reinvigorating about watching the clouds part to reveal a burst of energy in the form of sunlight. :)
I have been studying at Starbucks for the last few hours, and it wasn't until I looked out the window to see this transformation that I had gained enough energy and motivation to get through my readings! It's funny, you don't realize how big of an impact weather can have on you until it changes drastically. As a Seattleite, I've never minded the cloudy/rainy days that we get 90 percent of the time, personally because those days make me feel cozy and motivated to snuggle up with a hot cup of tea and watch a movie (...or study, if I have to :) ). But when Seattle gets those sunny days--which we only get during the Summer and on those unpredictable occasions in Autumn and Winter--, the bright, golden rays of sunlight seem to sweep away any cobwebs of weariness or frustration I may have had...And that is a great feeling indeed! Thus, I really appreciate those particular days that don't come around so often. It's great in general to appreciate the Sun and all that comes with it--with the all-of-a-sudden open range of things you can do outside (I am referring to what you can do in the Summertime when it's hot, of course), such as snuggling up with a cold glass of homemade lemonade...and watching a movie (again, referring to the Summer because no student would be studying in that time of year!). Or, even not during the Summer, those sunny days can always be effortlessly fulfilled by the brisk walks to take while wearing your warmest (and most stylish, no doubt) peacoat, hat and gloves; by taking the grand opportunity to turn yourself into a professional photographer and capture any aesthetically pleasing instance that sunlight bounces off of something (or someone, if you plan on taking portrait pictures...); or even just stepping out of the house early in the morning while everything (including your mind) is still fresh, to take in all the natural energy (and vitamin D) you may need to take on the rest of the day. So especially while we are still venturing through the cold, brisk days and nights of January, these are the chances to take advantage of everything the sunlight brings. :) Enjoy! ~~MC 8/17/2011 0 Comments Write It Down! What's a perfect way to make sure you stay committed to something? Write it down!
I recently started the new habit of writing down a list of what I'm going to do the next day, as it becomes the last thing I do before I throw myself into the deliciously cozy covers of my bed and fall asleep. I write down literally everything I plan to do: 'Exercise,' 'Eat breakfast,' etc. etc...I make sure not to leave out the things I actually have to do to stay alive. But obviously, none of us needs to include those things in whatever list we make. The point of my writing this post is to share that lists are a great way to make sure that the things you must, want, or need to do never escape from that busy-bee mind of yours! If you wish to procrastinate less and also become more committed to things like buying the new furniture or writing that novel you always wanted to write (yes, those little sparks of creativity deserve some fulfillment too), make sure those things are at the top of your list! Lists are quite handy, because once your thoughts are materialized through the driven force of ink that's slightly smeared on the bright page yet that's completely ingrained on the sheet and in your mind, you feel like you owe more to yourself to do the things you wanted and needed to do. The time has finally come for you to get that novel finished, so don't just sit there reading this blog post, go on and start writing that list (and then your novel...)! ~~MC 8/12/2011 0 Comments Your New Flare!Do you find yourself almost dying of boredom or at least wondering what things are still getting you excited about your daily life? An easy solution is this: Begin the adventure of a new hobby. :)
When I started this blog a little more than six months ago, I was looking for a bit of new excitement in my life. I had no problem with my daily routine of going to school, hanging out with friends and watching my favorite shows late at night, but sometimes I felt like I needed an outlet for the little sparks of passion for food and art that were bouncing around crazily in my brain. Plus, a little change or something new is always good. It brings a new flare to your life that motivates you and gets you up and running about making a fresh commitment. Anything like making jewelry, gardening, or starting a new blog (like I have...and I must say I recommend it because it's definitely made my daily routine a little brighter and more fulfilling) would be just another reason for you to enjoy every day that comes to you! Enjoy your new flare! ~~MC 8/11/2011 0 Comments Cheesy but TrueOne thing that I always find comforting is friendship. Being with a true friend who brings out the best in you is definitely a catalyst to making your day as enjoyable and memorable as ever. :)
I recently ventured to a peaceful waterfront with one friend, made a fresh batch of blueberry-glowing pancakes with another, and even shared blog links and photos with a different friend...There's something about little events like these that occur between you and a close companion, that makes you believe that happiness comes not from the most grand things imagined, but rather from the little things that together plaster a smile on your face so wide and for as long as you remember those fleeting memories. So raise a glass to the value of friendship and to always remembering to treasure every moment you share with those special people who cause sunshine to gleam all over your days! ;D ...And I realized that I have just beheld to you the cheesiest blog post of all mankind, but nonetheless you can't talk about the things you admire and love without being cheesy! ~~MC Hello!
I hope you are enjoying this lovely sunny afternoon wherever you are...and even if it's not sunny. :) I have found the Free People Boutique's blog (called Building 25) to be so inspiring, I decided to share a few pieces of their recent blog post for you to draw as much motivation and comfort from it as I have! This specific post had a list titled "33 Ways to Stay Creative," and I thought of posting a few of my personal favorites...
And here's the link to the entire box of chocolates in case you're interested: http://blog.freepeople.com/2011/07/some-much-needed-inspiratoin/ Enjoy! ~~MC What should you do on a rainy day? or even any day in fact? ...Go see a friend! :)
I say this today because, despite the blistering cold weather that was freezing my toes up to the inevitable point of complete numbness, and bullets of raindrops that were pounding the ground and causing endless chills to curl up and down my spine (these are slight exaggerations, but it definitely was raining and occasionally pouring), the couple of hours that I spent with my friend at Ugly Mug (my favorite cafe featured in a couple of my Foods for Fantasizing posts, under the "cafe" tab) made me think of the outside instead as rays of sunshine coming through the windows, illuminating the cafe that the two of us were seated comfortably and safely in. As we were having our lively yet occasionally calm conversations, I was being given the mindset of believing that today was going to last longer than most days, and therefore that today will end up more full of enrichment..than most days. ;) Friends make your days brighter, full of meaning, and full of possibility...And as long as you keep yourself surrounded with these lovely people I've just mentioned, who enjoy your company as you do theirs, who share laughs and jokes with you, and who lend you a comforting hand when you need it, you can be assured that you will always be armed for future obstacles and ready to embrace flutters of happiness. :) ~~MC 7/19/2011 0 Comments Memories you don't expectHello there! I was just feeling a bit nostalgic as I scrolled through the billions (not literally...there are just too many to count) of photos I took in France two years ago. I decided to show you these pictures I took out as evidence, of how some of the best memories you create are the ones you don't expect to remember so vividly months or years later, ones that go against memories people try to create especially in the world's most romantic city... Enjoy the photos, as I hope you will create memories just as lovely for yourself as you go about your day! :) ~~MC 7/19/2011 0 Comments "Do more of what makes you happy."Today I was reading a post from the Building 25 Blog (from the Free People Boutique), where they wrote a gigantic list of ways for you to stay creative...And one of the items on the list was:
"Do more of what makes you happy." Now that's something I want to read on a piece of paper every morning right after I wake up. :) What things do you do that make you happy? What skills, hobbies, or even career ideas get your mind working and your spirits elevated? Today, even if half of today has already gone by, take the next five minutes or so to think about the things that make YOU happy, not what things you think other people would like you to do or things that you know make other people happy. When I have a hard time trying to figure out what to do during the day, I ask myself the following question: If I had only today to live, what would I do? What would you want to do? --Would you want to go to the beach? travel to a destination where you can take beautiful photos? bake something you always wanted to bake? drive to your best friend's house and share a slice of chocolate cake?... I'm sure reading this blog wouldn't be on the list of your things to do if today was your last day on Earth, so hop off your chair after this sentence is over, and get right to doing what you love to do! ;D ~~MC |
